Mert currently serves as the Literary Associate at the Arcola Theatre and as a Script Reader for the National Theatre’s New Work Department. In 2023, he was the production dramaturg for the European premiere of Marc Blitzstein’s opera No For An Answer at the Arcola. He is also a member of the Young Vic’s Genesis Network and the Dramaturgs’ Network. Previously, he worked as a script reader for The Space and Bush Theatre, supporting their respective artistic teams in identifying and nurturing emerging talent.
Mert provides playwrights, screenwriters, directors, and other creatives with dramaturgical support and guidance on their work. He also scouts new work in British and American theatre for potential productions and adaptations in other countries, particularly Turkey. In this role, he delivers customized and innovative recommendations in response to programming needs of directors, producers, theatre companies, and performing arts centres.
Mert’s dramaturgical practice also extends to translation and adaptation, in which context he actively works between English and Turkish.
